My Bio

I am a contract Graphic Designer by profession but my original passion has always been illustration. Although my adult life doesn't always allow me to be as active as I was in my younger years, I still hope to create and contribute for years to come. Outside of art I am passionate about dog training and operate as a Search and Rescue volunteer. I am currently raising my youngest dog as a SAR K9 and have about a year left before our training is complete and I've freed up more time.

Hello, my amazing followers! I remember a time in High School when I thought to myself "man am I ever going to have so much time for art and DA when I'm an adult and I don't have school or chores to worry about anymore!" Who knew adulthood would be so much more time constraining!? Haha It's been a while since I've had time for personal art, but as promised I'll always come back. I can't help but wonder how many of my old DA friends and watchers are still active on here and where your lives have taken you over the years. I've written up some of my highlights below and can't wait to hear about yours! I think the last time I was on here was partway through University. I was doing good in the University of Utah Biomedical Engineering program and was looking forward to a career in research or Veterinary Medicine. As I had posted at one point though I was playing a dangerous financial game, taking a $4-$5k short term, non-interest loan out through the University every semester. Because

Making more progress! Color and fur mapping is almost where I want it. Time for detail work. Going to keep posting WIPS with this status feature to hold myself accountable to finish it! Haha

Hello, welcome to our group The-Big-Cats-Club

Thank you for the add!

How did you get so good at dogs/fur? I've been trying and trying and I just can't.

Many years of repetitive practice. I recommend working on drawing it monochromatically to start. This helps with knowing how to create depth before adding colors into the mix. I did a lot with a single colored pen or pencil on paper before transitioning into digital or colored pencil art. Find a photo you like of your favorite animal and try to follow the length and direction also start paying attention to how it lays over muscles and fine details and how to create contrast. I also recommend drawing from life once you are ready to start moving away from stagnant references. If you have a pet grab your notepad and draw them on the spot. For wildlife, my sister and I used to go to the zoo and draw. That's a bit harder with COVID restrictions now but I really like nature documentaries for this too!
